OrcaScribe

Privacy Policy

Effective August 27, 2026

Overview

OrcaScribe is a macOS application operated by DigitalCarbon Inc. It provides dictation, meeting capture, transcription, and note-taking features designed to run locally on your Mac. This policy explains how OrcaScribe handles information, including information received from Google APIs.

Voice, transcripts, and notes

OrcaScribe records only when you start dictation, a voice note, or meeting capture. Audio, transcripts, summaries, dictionary entries, and notes are processed and stored locally on your Mac. OrcaScribe does not send this content to DigitalCarbon or OrcaScribe servers.

Google user data we access

Connecting Google Calendar is optional. If you connect it, OrcaScribe requests your basic Google account identity and read-only access to your calendar list and calendar events. The app may access:

  • Your Google account email address.
  • The calendars available to the connected account.
  • Event title, start and end time, organizer, attendees, meeting link, and location.

OrcaScribe cannot create, edit, share, or delete Google Calendar events.

How we use Google user data

OrcaScribe uses calendar data only to identify a meeting happening now or beginning within the next 24 hours and to attach the selected meeting's details to a note you choose to start. Google user data is not used for advertising, profiling, or training AI models.

Storage, protection, and retention

  • Google OAuth refresh credentials are stored in macOS Keychain.
  • Short-lived access tokens are held in memory while needed.
  • Upcoming event metadata is cached in OrcaScribe's local database on your Mac.
  • Meeting metadata attached to a note remains with that local note until you delete the note.

OrcaScribe uses Google's encrypted HTTPS endpoints for Calendar API requests. Because the app stores data locally, the security of your Mac, macOS account, and device backups also affects that data.

Sharing and transfers

DigitalCarbon does not sell Google user data or share it with advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties. Calendar API requests travel directly between OrcaScribe on your Mac and Google. DigitalCarbon does not operate a server that receives or stores your Google Calendar data.

Your controls and deletion

You can disconnect Google Calendar from OrcaScribe at any time. Disconnecting removes the credential from macOS Keychain, attempts to revoke it with Google, and clears the local upcoming-event cache. You can delete notes containing meeting metadata inside OrcaScribe. You can also revoke OrcaScribe's access from your Google Account security settings.

Google API Services User Data Policy

OrcaScribe's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as OrcaScribe changes. We will post revisions on this page and update the effective date. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected].
